Dog Grooming School/ Tuition

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4.30pm by appointment only, please book early to avoid disappointment as I tend to be booked several weeks in advance.

I have been grooming for over 25 years on both show dogs and the family pet. I am proud to say I have groomed show champions and also worked for several years at Aberdeen College teaching their dog grooming courses, until I decided to move further away from Aberdeen. As a groomer, I feel that there is a need for owners to learn how to look after their own dogs coat in between visits to the groomer and as such offer the following selection of courses. How many times do owners say that they cannot manage to brush their dog's coat? It may be that the dog is not keen on being groomed or that the owner is not doing it right or may not even have the correct tools.

Puppy grooming course

This is a 2 hour course for the new puppy owner and puppy. Here the owner will learn which tools are best for the job, how to use them correctly and how to handle their puppy. They will also learn what to expect as the puppy's coat changes as it grows into an adult. This is an ideal point for new owners to learn how to groom their new puppy correctly before any bad habits are formed by either dog or owner!

Cost £30/puppy

The one to one half day course

This is a half day, one to one course, for owners to learn how to brush & comb, wash, dematt & dry, then clip and stlye their own dogs. You will also learn how to clip nails, clean ears and check Anal glands. Some owners especially if they have two or more dogs find this to be a good option, and quite a few will then only come in once a year to have the dog groomed to refresh their style lines.

This is an intensive day's training for the owner and for the dog, so it is not for the faint hearted! Owners must supply their own steady dog to work on. I would not recommend this day for a young puppy or very old dog or indeed for one that will not let itself be brushed. At the end of the day owners will have more confidence in using clippers and scissors and will also know what style is best for their dog. They will be able to go away feeling confident enough to try grooming their own dog on their own.

I find that most owners and dog's cannot cope with more than 4 hours tuition, it is physically hard on your dog and mentally draining on the owner as it is an intensive course.

The cost is £110 per day, plus the cost of your dogs trim.
